I got a new computer and I was wondering if I can use the memory from my old computer. Do you risk transferring a virus in memory? Thanks

It's not clear exactly what you're referring to. "Memory" is a term that gets tossed around a whole lot, and it can refer to a few different things.

If you mean the system RAM, then it's possible you can use it. You need to check to see what type of memory you have in the old machine and the new machine, and check to see if there are any open RAM slots on the new motherboard. There is no possibility of a virus transfer in this case, as data stored in RAM is lost once power is removed. It's possible that the old RAM will not even fit in the RAM slots on the new motherboard, or that the old RAM is slower than the new RAM. In that case, you'd want to leave the old RAM out or you'd slow down the performance of the entire system.

If you mean the hard drive space, the you very likely can move the old hard drive into the new system. You'll need to make sure you have a place to install the HDD, and you need to make sure you have an open IDE channel. You'll also have to configure the jumpers on the drive. Moving the hard drive does have a risk of transferring a virus, however, because that is where data is stored for long periods of time. It would be advisable to erase the old HDD before transferring it to the new machine unless you were certain it was virus-free and you did not want any data on it.
