   If i have two slots on my laptop for memory, is having two 256mb just as good as one 512mb?

   personally, 1x512mb stick will be the better option as it gives you the option in the future to add another stick of memory into the spare slot.

   the less amount of sticks you have the more stable the pc is, but if you have dual chan pc then you want 2 sticks of the same amount of ram/speed for better performance.
