Why is it that most posts here say download the iso and burn to a cdrom? Isn't that kinda wasteful?

One, it is a 93 k file. That to me is a waste for an entire cd.

Just use a floppy disk instead:

Unzip the file and run the install.bat file.

For this bin file, I typically rename the extension to .iso and use a tool called:

RawWrite which is a gui version of the command line rawwrite program.

I do know that some laptops don't have a floppy drive and I know that some newer computers don't have floppy drives installed (which is stupid). Anyway, if someone could explain this to me, I'd be much appreciated!

Answer: Whats a floppy? Oh yeah, thats that thing from 10 years ago that has an undeterminable lifespan, like 1 day to a couple years, a CDROM lifespan is unknown.

Well, old habits die hard. I still use them today.

You don't need to waste an entire CD for 1 93Kb-2.88Mb file, just download the Ultimate BootCD and update the utilities on it as needed, or create the 911 RescueCD; both of which have many of the utilities needed for repair and maintenance of computer systems.

You do have a point there. Just talking about burning ONLY memtest86+ on one cd.

I do have UBCD, it is a nice comprehensive utility suite. Just was making the comment on just using a floppy for something so small. Oh well. Perhaps I need to get into the current age.

I hear where your coming from mate, but these days with increasing numbers of pc's coming without floopys the only way is a CD or is it possible to add this to a USB pen drive and have that boot ( if your mobo supports booting from USB )?

The SPD option is one I have used and have a stack of utils on bootable cd.

I tend to have a habit of connecting a floppy drive to a computer temporarily, for certain programs that I have, which are not free. One is called quicktech. Perhaps what I need to do, is see if I can add that particular (expensive) utility to UBCD.

I wonder how old some of the members are here, so I tracked down this:

Publicly I still stand by the age I posted in the thread; no fair checking my profile to figure out my actual age. Age is but a number, youth is a state of mind.

Nothing wrong with age, the friends I hang out with, are older than I am. I'm the baby of the group at the age of 31. :)
