A new link has suddenly appeared on the menu bar when you click on the tool button in Internet Explorer. It is all question marks and when you click on it it takes you to a Porn Site. I had never been to this site and don't know it got hooked on there. I have tried everyway on earth to remove it.
I just discovered it doesn't actually appear until I am connected to the internet. Does anyone out there have any ideas on how to remove this?
    Thanks.

    agreed with atamca

also open internet explorer--tools--internet options--advanced--uncheck the box enable third party browser extensions

that should get you started but unfortunately ive got to go but im sure someone else will step in with further help to get rid of spyware and prevent it happening again

edit: btw you can download ad-aware here at majorgeeks
    http://www.majorgeeks.com/download506.html

Hi Cheryl and Welcome to MGs

To save my fingers from typing alot of info out and also because Major Attitude has saved me the trouble goto these two threads and have a read

    http://www.majorgeeks.com/vb/showthread.php?t=25834
    http://www.majorgeeks.com/vb/showthread.php?t=26149

the 2 main apps you want are Ad-Aware and Hijackthis both download locations are in the above two links.

when we have successfully removed this I would advise you to get this program http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=2859 and keep it upto date as it stops alot of spyware and browser hijacks from being installed in the first place.

if you have any more questions or need a bit of help runing the programs mentioned above, one of the many clever members here will be able to help :)

    Thanks

Thanks to all of you who offered help so quickly. Tha hardest thing I've tried to do so far is figure out where to reply to these replies. I hope I have done it right. I had already tried AdaWare but I ran it again with no luck. Then I downloaded SpyBot and it didn't remove it either. Is it possible because it is in the command section now. Since it is under the tools button on the browser it looks more like a command now than a file. Could it be removed in Dos? If so I would need help with that. I know some about it but not enough. I have become obsessed with removing this from my computer. Do you still think I should go to Hijackthis now? Thanks so much., Cheryl

As a workaround, go to tool, internet options.

Click on the advanced tab. Under browsing section, uncheck Enable Third Party Browser Extensions.

    Then restart Internet Explorer.

    Did it go away?

Now to remove it for good:

Try Hijack This! (available on this website) and do an online virus scan, http://housecall.anbtivirus.com

    Is this the same...

Would that be the same as Enable folder view for FTP sites? I have IE5.5 not 6.0
and that's the closest I could find. I will restart the computer and see if it makes a difference. I will try the HiJack route. Thank you. I hope it works. Cheryl...

    Can't find Hijack This

No, changing the advance tab didn't work and I can't seem to find Hijack This. I tried the link that Hale put in for me but I couldn't get to the actual site from there. Can someone please tell me how to get to Hijack This. Neither AdAware or spybot were able to remove it. Also the link I clicked on http://housecall.anbtivirus.com said the page couldn't be reached. Thanks, Cheryl

    Yes

Yes, this time I got to the right HiJack site and it has identified the button as well as many others which I know some shouldn't be deleted. I may need some guidance figuring out what should be saved and taken to the message board log site for help and what can just be deleted. I wanted to just delete that button immediately but I though I should learn a little more first. If you have time to direct me on the next step I would appreciate it. Thanks, Cheryl

    Debuggin Programs in Conflict

In response to Stoned's copying the log lines from HiJack and pasting them so he can help me with them, I couldn't because the Symantic Autoupder.FixTool thinks the HiJack program is a
Trojan. I started to think. What if it is one in disguise? What should I do now?

    Thanks to All

Thanks to all of you for your help and input. The link is Gone! Stoned, I have sent my hijack log file to your e-mail for you to look at. It's so great to have successfully defeated the worm terrorists in even a small way. I have learned so much just from this message board. I will probably check out SpyBlaster, too.
