Not sure if this should be in software...

    Question:
Why is my computer giving me the message, for a long time now, on inserting any USB device, 'This device can perform faster....' ? What's going on here ? Seems to work at some speed though.

    Detail:
I get this message with every different device I hang onto a USB port, irrespective of which socket (USB port) on my PC I use (there are 6, but I think only 4 "independent" ones) - "This device can perform faster. If you you connect it to a Hi-speed USB 2.0 port. For a list of available ports, click here" (picture attached)

Clicking here does nothing. I read somewhere (probably the HP website before they removed the specifications info on my PC) the my computer had USB 2. The m/b specification(if I'm looking at the correct m/b) says "Two front, four back (ver. 2.0)". It takes about 15 minutes to transfer 100Mbytes to an external USB disk => ~1Mbit/s). I'm also attaching a screenshot of System Properties>Hardware>Device Manager, which I don't really understand, but at the bottom it definitely says "USB 2.0"...

    Hi

Do a quick check for any updated Chipset driver from Compaq for your machine, as if you have tried them all then even if one set of USB ports were USB1.1 then the others would be USB2.0

And you do have the Enhanced Host Controller for USB2.0 so weird.

How many USB devices do you have plugged into your machine as if its too many then possible the power drawn from said devices could lower the speed, so unplug a few and try again.

Or if you know your devices are running at USB2.0 speeds then disable the warning, do this from device manager and the USB Hubs properties and click the Advanced tab and untick the "tell me if my device can run faster" box, will need to do this on all the Hubs.
