Message Cleaner??

Hi All, Brand new here and a novice, ie. totally ignorant, on using computers.
I had a program but lost it. It would clean the odd shaped characters off posts, the lines to the left and then I would have a very readable post that i downloaded. It worked great. Any idea what it is called?
Also later I will ask why I can't read my printed files/posts I saved in folders and then copied to CDs and an external hard drive.
I got banged up in the military and it'd hard for me to understand complicated instructions:confused.

Hi

Don't know if this is what you are after, likely not the same app but from your description of what you wish to achieve, its removing the alternative text characters from text files, and try this Text Cleaner HERE (its free)

But what Windows version are you using? give a clue at times as to what apps can be available and work with said Windows version.

As for printed files/posts saved to CD or extHDD, what file format are they in and what errors if any do you get when you try to open them?

Sorry for my long absence. Thank you for your suggestion but the one I am looking for removed those lines by the side of a text and also the writing that looks like gibberish.
