   Start, run, services.msc.
   
   Locate the Messenger service, double click, set startup to disabled.
   
   Then stop the service.

   Alternately, you can use the Ad Aware Messenger Service Plugin. It does the exact same thing, but some people are more comfortable using that and you'll know that you didn't mess anything up.
