Does the fact that some software downloads can be downloaded through the MG site imply that they carry some sort of 'official MG seal of approval' ? (perhaps replace "official" with "unofficial") and are safe to use ? Do MGs review these software, and if so, can find any reviews on this site ?

I am particularly thinking of using of "Reimage" to check my XP to avoid a complete re-install if I can (I have a Compaq with OS pre-loaded so I can "re-install" (I'm sure that's not the right word] from the special partition on HD).

It's a scam. They are all scams. I just ran it in a virtual machine with a fresh install of Windows and it want's $70 to fix "problems" on the PC.
BTW, I don't see it listed here. It is on other download sites though.

Perhaps if you told us what's wrong with your PC we can help fix it.
When a PC is really messed up, a reinstall is the best course of action. What's holding you back? No backups?

The downloads at MajorGeeks are clean and without added bloatware. That is extremely important because some sites add extras, including malware, you neither want nor need.

I stopped downloading from CNet years ago (this article is from 2011)

Obviously Tim and Jim, the owners do not have enough hours in a day to install and test every single download. If there is a problem with something, they depend on feedback

and posts here to mention if there is a problem with a program hosted on the site.

Just to let you know---a friend in 2005 referred me to this site. I do not think I have downloaded anything into my, my friend's, or family's computers that has not come from Major Geeks. The helpful folks here and the awesome programs make this the best techie site known to man. If Major Geeks doesn't have it then you don't need it. P.S.---This is a non-paid endorsement.
