MHRFE in Services

On my Compaq, looking in services.msc, I find this MHRFE, a Local service. I have looked at Black Viper's list of services and the only thing close I find is MHN; however, that is found in MCE 2005 and not in XP Home which I have (SP3). I have googled MHRFE and only a fake looking Microsoft Live page with a funny URL comes up--plus several Turkish, Korean and other foreign pages.

Does anyone know if MHRFE is some obscure valid Microsoft service? Microsoft Home something or other?

What OS are you using there?

Go to start > run > type in:

    • services.msc

hit enter... scroll down to the service in question and right click it for properties?

For example when I right click and check out properties on my avast! anti virus service I see the below:

    avast service properties.PNG

Hmmm you have a thread in malware removal with Chaslang which looks to me like you haven't finished. So before you start making posts in software, get your malware issues solved as this just causes much confusion for you and the helpers. Just be patient and Chaslang will respond to you as soon as he can. I see you posted more logs as you suspect malware so it's important to rule taht out before delving into other software issues

Link to your thread in malware:

    Trojans, What Else?

    Thanks for understanding

    Kes13,
No, this is NOT the Lenovo in the Trojans, What Else? thread. That computer is sitting idle for the time being. This is the Compaq. I'm so sorry everyone is getting confused that I have two computers.

Please be assured (and let Chaslang know too) I am not going to ask anything in another forum about a computer that is active in the Malware Forum, and I am not going to do any more things to the Lenovo from the time I last posted in the Malware Forum until I get instructions on how to proceed. I know from reading so many of the posts that doing things on one’s own could mess up whatever fixes you guys come up with. At least, it creates extra work for you and delays getting a fix.

Now this MHRFE service. It showed up in a HJT log as an O23 with file missing. I ran services.msc and found this thing. No description of it under the name. The “missing” file was there: Documents and Settings\Janice\Temp\Mhrfe.exe. Not anything that I remember installing and not in the C:\Downloads path where I would have downloaded it and not in the C:\Program Files where I would have installed it. I just did not like the looks of it, so I disabled it. Then I thought about it some more and went back and disabled it some more. There are registry entries that go with this service. I’ve formed an opinion on what this is, but I’d rather wait and see what someone else will say about it first.

I made thumbnails, hoping that some visuals would help in understanding what I am seeing all the time. Let’s see if I can attach them. I've never done them before; you may have to tell me what to do. I'm putting them as attachments for now.

I have some more but it will take another post to put them.

Yes :( they're too small to see I'm afraid. Try uploading the screebgrabs you create thru using paint (is easiest and most straight forward) onto a file hosting site such as flickr or photobucket.

And then once you have done so you can use the "copy link" location on the right click menu if you use Firefox and then come back here and use "insert image" button, right click paste in location > preview to check results and we should see better screenshots.

I also am not finding any info on the service.
