Micro-AntiVirus-plus-AntiSpyware,PC Freezes up after update

    Hi,

    I would like to know something about 32 bit and 64 bit software,can you install a 32 bit software program on a Vista 64 bit computer system. It's not for me,let me tell you the story,my sister has a new Hp Computer with Trend-Micro-AntiVirus-plus-AntiSpyware and she downloaded an updated version and now she's telling me that sometimes her PC freezes up ( Locks up ) and all she can do is to shut it down then restart.

    It all started after the she updated her Micro-AntiVirus-plus-AntiSpyware. I went to the site and found that there are two version for Trend-Micro-AntiVirus-plus-AntiSpyware 32 bit and 64 bit. Is there any way you can tell which one she download,maybe somewhere in the AntiVirus Program. I'm going over there tomorrow and using the uninstall tool from Trend-Micro,,, uninstall then reinstall her AntiVirus-plus-AntiSpyware. I'm curious to know if it is the 32 bit or 64 bit AntiVirus software that caused her problems.

    Her Computer is clean,it all started after she updated software.

    Hello Norby,I don't know if I can help but a friend at work had a similar problem with trend micro. He just did a reinstalled it and that done the trick,hope things work out for your sisters Puter.

    Hi Norby

    Yes and No on installing 32bit software on a 64bit OS, majority of the time 32bit software installs and works fine, but at times and security software is one of these areas, you need if available the companies 64bit version.

    If the software updated automatically then its likely it woudl have downloaded the 64bit updates, BUT I think Marlene's suggestion is a goodun to see if indeed its this app causing the freezing as it maybe just a coincidence.

    I talked to my sister on the phone after reading your post,she say's here subscription was up ( via e-mail ) they told her to download the 2009 version (she had 2008. All she can tell me that is was a very big download ( she is not computer smart ) me thinks she is having conflicts with 32 bit and 64 bit. I won't know till I go over her house tonight,I'm still at work. I do not think it's a coincidence it started shortly after the download and install.

    In that case then I think your suspicions are correct as many folk dont know or initially go for the 64bit version as its alien to them so stick with 32bit download as safe bet, so likely this could be cause, do let us know how you get on?

    Well that did the trick,I uninstalled TrendMiro and reinstall the 64 bit version. It is working just fine now,no freeze ups at all. My sister does not know which one she installed ( 32 bit or 64 bit ),like I said she's not computer smart.
