I have a Dell xps m140 laptop. Yesterday my microphone stopped working. I receive sound just fine but cannot use the mic. I tried it on another laptop and it works just fine. I have updated the codec thinking maybe it was outdated. I went to dell and found a sigmatel high definition codec for 2007 mine was 2005. This didn't solve the problem. I have searched and cannot find out what is the problem. I cannot access the mic through entertainment in accessories as some sites have mentioned. Can someone help me please. Thanks. :cool

I don't know much about mics, but this will ensure that it is setup properly
Check in Control Panel>Sounds and Audio Devices, click the Volume tab.
Click Advanced in Device Volume area.
Make sure that you have Microphone listed in the Master Control. Make sure it's not muted and the volume is at an acceptable level.
If not there, click Options>Properties and mark the box for it.
Now choose the audio tab and make sure the proper device is set as the Default Sound Recording Device.
