    Hey guys,

I am trying to get my microphone working but when I plug it into the socket, the sound turns off except for a slight ringing noise which isn't there normally. The mic itself doesn't work either and doesn't record anything.

I have uninstalled the sound drivers (of which there are 5 - 4 Nvidea ones and 1 HD audio driver) and then let Windows install them again. I also tried downloading some Realtek drivers but they didn't seem to work.

    Anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks in advance!

Have you been into your sound settings via Control Panel and checked that Microphone is enabled and driver installed.

    Hey, thanks for the reply.

Yes it appears in control panel and says 'this device is working' but records no sound and turns the sound on the computer off

Were the Nvidea and HD audio drivers the ones that came with the mic? Also are you 100% positive that the others you downloaded are for the same make/model of mic?

The Nvidea ones and the HD ones are the automatic ones that Windows 7 has downloaded for me. The mic doesn't need a driver I think, it has always worked just by plugging it in?

Is it possible that Windows downloaded less than optimal ones? Any other ideas?

I don't windows would download less than optimal ones..for the reason that it may not work correctly. Does it just plug in through your mic and speaker ports?

Yes it plugs into the microphone port, but the problem occurs if it is plugged into either the back or the front one.

Ok, Try plugging something other than that mic into your mic port. To see if it's just your mic or if it's your port

I just tried my headphones in the port and they don't make the sound turn off. But I tried this mic in another computer and it worked :/

Your headphones will do nothing in your mic port but take up space..Mic port is input,Speakers output. Do you have anything else you can test that port with?
