Microsoft 2010 error

My windows system with Microsoft Office 2010 installed was working great until about a month ago. It was probably due to a 'registry clean' I did using Auslogistics Registry software. I am not sure. Microsoft documents don't open. They open with Open office. Every time I try to open the documents with Microsoft Office, the system tries to set up the software and then fails at it. It says 'a problem caused the program to stop working correctly'. Wonder what to do!

Try finding one of your office documents and right click on it. The drop down menu should give a list of applications to open it with, choose Office for all files of this type. Hope this helps!

 

Thanks for the reply. I am using OpenOffice to open the documents. But I want to have my Microsoft application working again. The documents were made in Microsoft word. The product activation key is set and it is activated. But the system goes into 'setup' and then fails.

 

Sorry to butt in because I'm no expert, trust me.

When you've opened the document in Open Office, are you able to save it as a .docx? You might have to give it a slightly different name, like Document-2.docx.

 

Hi. Thanks and welcome to the suggestions. The problem is not with 1 document. It is with Microsoft 2010 itself. So no Word document is opening. The software as such does not open.

 

Ouch! That's not good because Word is not a cheap program to buy.

Thanks for the advice. I have tried that. In Acer Aspire One, there is only 'uninstall' option and no 'change' option. I tried to uninstall but don't know how to locate the software execution file to set it up again.
Also, thanks for the product key software.
Fortunately, the product activation is happening. The software gets stuck at the next step. Whenever I open a document, the system asks me if I should run Microsoft (my system does it for all programs). I click OK, then it goes to product activation and ends up in Setup. There it gets stuck and I get the message that "'a problem caused the program to stop working correctly''.
Previously, when I opened a Word document, the systems would ask me if I should open Microsoft, and when I click OK, it simply opened the document in Microsoft 2010. I guess it was a registry cleaner I used, called Auslogistics registry cleaner. Unfortunately, I did not create a system restore point.
The PCfix software suggested found issues to fix but needs payment to fix them.

I bought a brand new Word 2010 in an unopened package. When I tried to install using the key that came with it, MS wouldn't accept it. They changed the key for me, but it was still a hassle.

Maybe MS Word is getting too big for it's boots and needs to slow down a bit.

I found that aside from the Microsoft 2010 icons, there was a Microsoft Office Starter-English, which shows an uninstall/change option.
When I click 'change', the system says, Click-2-run configuration failure.
