Not sure I'm in the right forum but... I installed MS Antispyware a few weeks ago and have been happy with it so far, except starting a few days ago I get this MS AS Notice every time I log on: "Microsoft Antispyware has blocked the IE Bar Microsoft windows shell common Dll (Shell32.dll) from being installed. name: Microsoft Windows shell common Dll. file path: c\windows\system32\shell32.dll". When i click on their "for more info click here" all I get is a blank box with no info. Since this started my computer runs a bit slower. I have no idea what this Shell32 thing is. Any help? Thanks.

    http://www.majorgeeks.com/images/grenade.gif Download HijackThis 1.99.1

http://www.majorgeeks.com/images/grenade.gif Unzip the hijackthis.exe file to a folder you create named C:\Program Files\HJT

http://www.majorgeeks.com/images/grenade.gif Do NOT run Hijack This from the Desktop, a temp folder, or a sub-folder of C:\Documents and Settings, or choose to run it directly from the ZIP file as your backups will not be safely stored.

http://www.majorgeeks.com/images/grenade.gifBefore running HijackThis: You must close each of the following:your web browser, e-mail client, instant messenger, and programs like notepad, wordpad, MS Word etc. And any other unnecessary running programs.

http://www.majorgeeks.com/images/grenade.gifRun HijackThis and save your log file.

http://www.majorgeeks.com/images/grenade.gif Post your log as an ATTACHMENT to your next post. (Do NOT copy/paste the log into your post as it will be removed).

    Your HJT log is clean!

I would like you to do something for me, first be sure you have the viewing of hidden files and folders enabled per the tutorial. Now navigate to the following directory C:\WINDOWS\system32 and manually search for the file Shell32.dll.

Check to see if there are more than one, and also right click and check the properties. Be sure its the Microsoft legit file and not a fake.

If it is the legit file then have MSAS allow it, reboot and see if it prompts again.

I found the file "Shell32.dll" in C:\WINDOWS\system32. There was only one. I'm not a pro but when i looked at the properties it looks like an official Microsoft file. But now I can't figure out how to let MSAS allow it like you asked me to. Can you help me with that?

First, update your defs for MSAS. I'm not 100% familiar with MSAS because I no longer use it due to its drop of Claria.

When the pop-up comes up from MSAS, is there any options or what does it do exactly?

I updated my MSAS defs (I thought I had it set up to do this automaticly) and I no longer get that popup. Great!

Another question: I'm running Microsoft Antispyware, Windows Firewall, and McAfee Viruscan. Would there be any conflicts with these? Is this a good combo for protection on a basic home desktop computer?
