microsoft bit defender

this is a good program, but due to the aging of my pc, i wanna loosen up some memory, y does ms window defender have no uninstallation, cant find it also in the control panel, tried terminating its process mspheng.exe something like that, keeps turning again, so i tried to delete the whole folder, after terminating its process but it changed its folder name to zzzzzzzz? just want to understand why this happens, and how could i properly dispose of it...tnx more power to mg.

 

Hmmmm.... you should be able to remove Defender by using Add/Remove Programs (at least in XP you can). I think that if you're using Vista, Defender is 'built-in' kind of like Internet Explorer is 'built-in' and it can't be removed. You should be able to uncheck it from msconfig's start-up list and services list. I think the process name is msascui.exe (at least it was in the older versions of Defender).

 

tnx, it was msascui.exe, ur right, i used win patrol in disabling it in the start up, cnt find it in the add remove from control panel, even from the installed components of reg cleaner and ccleaner. i just used killbox to delete it & do some registry cleaning. tnx again

 

Actually, msascui.exe is just the front-end, the user interface.

jojoreal19 was right - the actual 'Windows Defender' service calls the MsMpEng.exe executable. This can be disabled like any other service.

However, you should be able to remove it from Add/Remove programs by going into the 'Windows Components' section IIRC
