I get Microsoft has encountered a problem message when I try to open my Yahoo or Gmail email accounts. It seems I can load other pages from the web but not these. I could just a few short hours ago. Does anybody know what might be going on????????? I went to the store and bought me a nice new digital camera. Installed the software. I haven't even used it yet. I was going to check email first. Thanks all:)

Upon further investigation I get that same message on some but not all ( I am here with no problems) web pages. I have w98(i know it is old) but I don't use it much for anything but email and browsing the web. I was hoping to be able to use it more with my new camera. thanks again

What web browser are you using? If it is internet explorer, try switching to an alternative like firefox. You can download it here

I have Internet Explorer. Not sure I want to try a new browser. I have been considering it but have been afraid to. I think my problem has something to do with Spybot. I might not be using it right. i did go to there web site and to the support but couldn't find anything along my problems line. I could be just looking the wrong part. I sent them my problem and have not heard back yet.

If I was to load the new browser what effect will have with spybot?

No effect at all. I use both IE and Firefox on a Win98SE PC. :)

Have you done anything else besides install that software before the problem started?

Have you tried uninstalling that software to see if that is the problem?

Twinkles ....on firefox / bookmarks / firefox and mozilla links / themes and extensions ...never mind .....here is the link http://ietab.mozdev.org/

This will let you download MS$ updates, etc....in firefox ....so try that service pack again.

OK, I did that and went to the other sites and downloaded them and still no fix to the problem. Was there something else I should of done?? Just my uneducated thought is that something changed in my Internet Explorer settings when I downloaded the camera sofware. I did uninstall it didn't help. lol thanks

If you have the Google Toolbar or Yahoo Toolbar installed, go thru Add/Remove in the control panel and uninstall them.

Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.x Repair for Windows XP

From the Start menu, select Search, select All Files and Folders.
Select More Advanced Options and place a checkmark beside Search Hidden Files and Folders option.
Ensure that Search System Folders and Search Subfolders are also checked.
In the All or Part of the File Name box, type ie.inf
In the Look In drop-down menu, select C: or the letter of the hard drive that contains the Windows folder.
    Click the Search button.
In the search results pane, find the ie.inf file located in Windows\Inf folder.
Right click the ie.inf file and click Install on the context menu.
Reboot the computer when the file copy process is complete.

Search and reinstall should ...the link is for xp, however.

YOu could also go to add/remove ...system components and uninstall I.e. , reboot, and reinstall.

    Try this,

Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Information > click on Tools > Innternet Explorer Repair Tool > check Repair Internet Explorer.

    Let it finish then restart.

    GO VOLS. :)

    Well.... how rude!
Have you uninstalled I.E. already ....haven't read through all the posts recently, so not wure what all has been suggested.
To uninstall I.E. go to add/remove programs / add-remove windows components and remove I.E. ...reboot when done then reverse the process ...reinstall I.E.
