Microsoft IE powered by hotbar

    Hi...I just downloaded ad-aware and deleted everything that was found from hotbar but still says Microsoft Internet Explorer powered by Hotbar at the top of my screen. How do I get rid of this? ad-aware has helped my computer operate alotttt faster now and not getting very many popups either. I hope somebody can help me....Thanks!!! :)

    Hi and Welcome


    there are a few ways to do this and it depends wether you want to get into editing the registry by hand or by using a small visualbasic script which will do the editing for you..........?


    Editing the registry by hand...........

    find and open Regedit then navagate through the menus in this order HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > Software > Microsoft > Internet Explorer > Main

    within the Main folder their will be this listed under Name ...... Window Title double click it and change the Value Data to what ever you want then click ok.

    Also you need to do the same at this location aswell

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > Microsoft > Internet Explorer > Main



    Now doing it via a small program..........


    go here and download the script file

    then just double click it and change the title ( small warning and its not a biggy BUT this script may alert your AntiVirus program... this program is from a well respected PC guru and is NOT a virus )


    *Final WARNING is editing the registry can be harmfull to the smooth running of your PC and a backup of the registry is always worth doing if your not used to editing it*

    Either that or you can leave it the way it is. As it wouldn't be slowing your machine down. Hot Bar just changes the title like most isp's do when you install "their" software :)

    Man is that completely wrong. It is spyware and takes up screen space as well. Please try not to answer when your not sure, it confuses people and sends wrong information out there.


    Right click on your browser near the hotbar and unselect hotbar, uninstall from add\remove programs, then run ad-aware again.

    Halo.....I downloaded the file and it worked!!! Thank you sooo very much!!!!! No more hotbar, thank God. This is an awesome place to come for help and believe me I need it bad, lol. I don't know my computer very well but I'm learning....yes I'm blonde, lol. Thanks to all of you that responded!

    what the heck? I just looked up and see my IE says "Powered by Hotbar" but adaware comes up clean and I don't remember installing anything that would put this on my comp.. What program did I install that did this?

    EDIT: IT only says powered by Hotbar when I am browing the Major Geeks message board... ????

    Did you read the posts above? It was from HotBar. Like most spyware (scumware) removing it does not always remove it. Halo mentioned a file above to fix that, read his post.

    Welcome to the site. You'll find that if Kodo, Major Attitude, Halo or any of the admins here answer, it's usually on the money.

    It will say Powered by Hotbar when you are on MGs and why you ask? well its the name of the Thread ;)

    Hi redneck ....I did uninstall it but was still getting popups from hotbar until I changed the title. Hotbar is bad news! And by the way mr. redneck...I'm not a HE...alllllll female here.
