Microsoft Installer / Uninstaller Problems

Having problems uninstalling software from my Windows XP SP2 desktop. Also get errors when installing an update of a previously installed program.

The uninstall freezes and gives me an error message "Internal Error 2329. 32, C:\Config.Msi\193eb03.rbf". Different uninstalls give different .rbf filenames but the result is the same - I cannot uninstall some software using Add/Remove Programs. The problem is not specific to a single program, unfortunately.

This also occurs when running MSI to install an update to a previously installed program.

Here's what I've tried - heavy duty virus scanning, numerous programs, safe mode, etc. Nothing turned up other than a few tracking cookies which I deleted. Reinstalled MSI from microsoft.com. Checked administrative rights - yes I have them. Can't do a system restore (unfortunately).

I am completely humbled by this - any suggestions?

 

Disable your Anti-virus and any Internet Security programs and see if you still get the error.

That does the trick. I am running CA internet security including their firewall & antivirus. Leaving firewall up, I shut down all antivirus protection and can uninstall / install freely. Is there some sort of setting I have wrong for my antivirus or is this something I will just have to deal with?

 

Well, good question.

My guess is a "setting" somewhere. Wish I could be of more help but you might have to just try different adjustments/settings with the Security Suite.
