Hi, I wonder if anybody can help me.

I am using a Microsoft Wireless Intellimouse Explorer 2.0 with Windows XP SR-2. It was working perfectly until 6:30pm this evening!

Everything was fine when I got home from work, did a bit of surfing, went downstairs from dinner. Came back upstairs and (not sure if this is relevant) popped in my Bytestor flash drive because I needed to update some documents for work.

    My mouse went crazy.

It seems to have activated some kind of "hover" mode. When I hover over folders they open. When I hover over the tops of windows they move. When I hover over applications they run. Moving the mouse over the screen can activate 5 or 6 different events in the space of 5 seconds!!

I re-booted, same problem. I re-plugged the mouse, same problem. I replaced the batteries, same problem. I re-installed the software, same problem.

I took the mouse out and put in a crusty old wired mouse and it works perfectly. Unfortunately I don't have access to a second PC on which to try to Intellimouse that I removed.

This is driving me nuts. Does anybody know why my mouse might have gone mad and what I can do to fix it?

    Thanks,

    John

Can't help you, unfortunately with MS version. :cry

But I have a very similar problem with my Logitech cordless mouse.
It staggers like a drunk when I move it. My Belkin miniscroller corded mouse works perfectly.

I've tried all the things you have and no change :crybaby.

Logitech haven't bothered to reply to my various pleas for help. :cry :( :p Bazza

Is this on a notebook? Is this the first time you've plugged that flash drive into the computer? Take out the flash drive, reboot the computer and see if the mouse behaves.
I've noticed behavior similar to yours in linux on two notebooks.

No, it's a regular desktop PC. And I've been using the flash drive for about 6 months without problems (although I can't help but think it could be related to my problem in some way - unless the timing was just a massive co-incidence).

I've rebooted the PC a dozen times since the problem occured - without the flash drive in the USB port - and the mouse still behaves the same. The old corded mouse I'm now using still works fine.

Have you tried checking for an updated driver. When you plugged in your thumb drive, was that the first time on this pc? They will usually install drivers for themselves and could be a conflict with the mouse driver. See if there is a new driver.

Have you tried changing channels on the mouse? Push the button on the reciever and wait for it to blink..then push the button on the mouse and hold for 10 seconds.

I also understand these to be very customizable. Go into the software and make sure the button assignment haven't changed or features changed
