    Good afternoon
I use Opera (without java) and a couple (though not many) sites have told me I need Java to view the pages. I went to the page you suggested xflat, which gives instructions on how to uninstall MS java (I know I have that in IE6) and then gives a link to download Java.
So, my question is this, can I just install Java from Sun, or will I need to do the "Opera with Java" install?
    Many thanks :)

You can just install Java from Sun. All Opera /w Java does is install a copy of Sun's Java that you download with it.

And the MSJVM Removal Tool can help simplify the process.

Question: I D/Led Sun Java and have it set as default, but did not remove MSJVM. Is my system still vulnerable? Should I remove it?

    Hi alanc,
Went to the Java website and when you pick download and platform (windows) it tells you that the supported browsers are netscape, mozilla and IE, I use Opera so I'm not sure if that will work? Any ideas?

lostkiwi, as long as you're on Windows I'm pretty sure it will install with Opera.

I would remove it, it's not doing you any good. Whether you're vulnerable or not depends on what critical updates you have installed, if you have 'em all you're OK.

xflat and alanc thanks for all the help the MSJVM removal tool was really helpful.
for all those interested in checking wether they have msjvm go to start run type "cmd" without the brackets and then in dos type jview. if some text comes up listing options u have it if it says unrecogonized command u dont have it

IIRC, I just gave it any old filename in my temp folder since I wasn't going to keep it anyways.
