Microsoft Keyboard Problems

I have just bought a laptop for university, and a wireless keyboard and mouse for laziness basically. But since installing the keyboard etc, things have gone wrong.

My [laptop] function keys double up as volume controls etc. With the [wireless] keyboard loaded, (with extra features such as "favourite buttons") it changes the original Sony Vaio preferences for these function keys, each time i press them I get asked what I would like to assign to my favourite keys.
Only problem is.. you can only assign programs for easy opening. SO. I'm stuck.

If i uninstall the software, it's fine again. Until i install it again. I've played with the drivers, loooked for help in the Help thingie, and all ove the net. Help me! Please!

 

do you really need the software for them to run? if not, then you should probably not load the software.

on the otherhand, maybe you can change the keys for the shortcuts that are loaded with the software

 

Obviously a clash between the 2.

Have you tried another keyboard ( a wired one) and maybe a wired mouse to see if there is a difference, or combinations of all, to pin down if it is the wireless keyboard (probably).

Did you install any of the wireless software?
Maybe un-install and re-install (check defaults and options).
Maybe try the wireless bits without any wireless software installed.
Maybe XP (I assume) will detect it and use it's own drivers (probably not).
Lastly check out the manufacturer's own website for FAQ's or reports on known "bugs' or clashes.

You may have to give the wireless versions the flick. Bazza
