There are 2 programs that I'd like to install, but they both require NET 2.0. I currently have version 1.03705 (up to date with latest SP). I did not bother to install version 1.1, either. I am not a web developer, and only would consider 2.0 in order to enable me to install other software.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of NET 2.0?

I had it installed BEFORE my computer crashed, and seem to remember that it increased my boot time considerably (added about 20 seconds!!). I also remember that it was very difficult to remove.

When I recently rebuilt my HDD to its original configuration, I did NOT reinstall 2.0. I am very, very happy with the way everything works now, and I am somewhat afraid to install it.

The programs that I want to install are: SyncToy v1.4, and the latest ATI video drivers/software for my Radeon 8500 video card.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi

I think you summed up the advantages and disadvantages already, in that you cannot run certain software applications without .NET, not personally noticed a slower bootup time, but maybe the later versions of .NET and their updates fixed this on some PC setups.

I would also suggest skipping .NET2.0 and going to .NET3.0 as it combines the two http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...0B-F857-4A14-83F5-25634C3BF043&displaylang=en

Remeber to create a restore point first, so that if it causes an issue you can rollback.
