Microsoft Office 2019 For Mac

I purchased a MacBook Pro because my PC was old and every update for Windows 10 was horrendous. I had to redo my computer every time because it Messed up all my programs. I finally purchased a MacBookPro and also Microsoft Office for Mac. I do not rent it for a year, it is now two years that I have it. Now I cannot save any of my files in Excel. It wants me to upgrade to Office 365 which I don't want to do. and I don't want to rent the program to be renewed every year. I am happy to remain where I am so the upgrade does not change my settings and cause me problems. I don't want Microsoft involved any longer. Because of my age I turned to Major Geeks for help and you have always been there for me. I am trying to simplify my life as much as possible. Hassles at this point are too much to deal with. What choice do I have? Can you please help me again??

 

which version of macOS does your macbook pro have?
on my mac, i just switched to neooffice, or you can just use libre office.
and then you can be done with microsoft.
both of those office suites can see and use any of the microsoft office files.

one more question please. Can I request Microsoft to release my Excel and the other programs in Office if they lock them up also? As I stated when I purchased the program it was supposed to be mine for one computer, with no further rental price. Thank you.

 

well, in theory, you are correct.

office 2019 is yours. it is a short piece that says:
-- Support for Office 2019 for Mac ended on October 10, 2023. Rest assured that all your Office 2019 apps will continue to function—they won't disappear from your Mac, nor will you lose any data.

but then it goes on to say:
-- You'll no longer receive Office 2019 for Mac software updates.
-- You'll no longer receive security updates.
-- You'll no longer receive phone or chat technical support.
-- No further updates to support content will be provided. ->> In fact, most online help content will be retired.

so, basically, you are on your own. and calling microsoft will, most likely, prove fruitless.
800 pound gorillas will do what they want, and it is rarely the right thing.

but libre office is actively developed, now, and well into the future:

you would want LibreOffice 7.6.7, they offer 2 versions, one for mac with intel processors, and one for apple silicone.

i forgot to add, there should be no problem or conflicts to have both office 2019 and libre office installed at the same time.
you could use libre office for spreadsheets and then office 2019 for everything else.
why excel started to behave badly... who knows. at least libre office can work with all of your excel files.
