Microsoft Office Click-to-run Problems

I have a bunch of Word docs. that have been running just fine for some years, but just lately there is a new app from Microsoft Office that has inserted iiself into my Word docs. The docs have a box outlined in red in what useto be my Word docs. I would say about 35% are now in this new app from Microsoft. If I try to open in the new app I get "The app was unable to start correctly (OXC0000142) Microsoft Office Click-To-Run intgrated Office EXE.
It would not be that big of a deal except they will not open if I click on them. If I do a Open With, then I am fine because I can choose Word, but I have many files.
