Hi....I had a bad trojan infection which Chaslang thankfully helped me sort out. When I got the trojan it stuffed up something in my microsoft office pro 2003 and Internet Explorer 6. Everytime I try to open an office document, be it a word file, excel, pps etc the file starts to open then windows installer starts because it says it needs to install a missing file..so I go through all that until it asks for the CD. I put the CD in then get an error message saying it cant find a certain .CAB file (the name of the file varies every time I have tried but it is always a .CAB). I can browse the cd and see the files ok....but windows installer cant seem to. So I thought ID just uninstall and reinstall...but the same thing happens and it wont let me.!!
As for IE6 if I try to open a web page I just get a white screen that says its loading but never finishes. Had to install Firefox just to get here.
I am running XP/SP2 with all updates. All current scans are done. I have a P4 with 512 mb ram , 2.8g processor, 120Gb hdd and a heap of useless programs made by microsoft!! Everyone is sending me files that I cant open!!! HELP!!!

I just tried the IEFix but had the same problems. The program couldnt read the files it wanted from the CD. I could browse and find it there but it says it cant find it.

Ok..i tried that but I cant open an office program at all without windows installer blocking me from doing anything in it...and cant access any help/detect/repair option at all through add/remove programs either. It doesnt even give me the option to uninstall it. The change repair option isnt there for office either. Anymore suggestions?

Ok..thanks for that Matacumbie. That worked a treat. Seems all my office programs are now working! All I need to do now is get my internet explorer working again and all will be well! Anyone any ideas on that one?? for those that havent read...my problem is IE will open but never actually finish loading a web page. The hourglass icon on my cursor appears and the page stays white forever, Doesnt matter what web page I try to open. am using ie6sp2 (i think).

    Try the steps below.

    1. Quit all programs that are running.
    2. Click Start, and then click Run.
    3. Type regsvr32 urlmon.dll, and then click OK.
    4. When you receive the "DllRegisterServer in urlmon.dll succeeded" message, click OK.

If this does not resolve the problem, repeat steps 2 through 4 for each of the following files (in step 3, replace Urlmon.dll with each of the file names below):

    • Shdocvw.dll
    • Actxprxy.dll
    • Oleaut32.dll
    • Mshtml.dll
    • Browseui.dll
    • Shell32.dll

Windows XP and Windows 2000 only
Restart the computer to enable the changes to take effect.
