My daughter needs Microsoft Office products such as the current Excel and Powerpoint for college. I want to be above board and legal. A coworker of my wife gave her Microsoft Office 2000 cd's and on it it states it came loaded with a computer system. First of all, it saying 2000 doesn't address the concern. I was wondering if software included with someones system will work on mine, and if its legal to do it even if it is ok? Maybe I should go to the Office Depot and buy the current stuff? Thanks for any input on doing this or good deals on the same.

    Hi

Most of the OEM supplied software is only for use on the supplied PC, while it may work its a judgement call for you as to wether you wish to run it or not, TBH and I love MS Office and always use it, but does she need MS Office specifically?

If not then Open Office is a superb free option and opens and saves to Office formats, if needing MS Office then as a student she maybe ok for MS Office 2007 Student version which is a good price, just depends on the applciations in Office she needs, some info here

Check the college bookstore for "Academically priced" software. She may be able to buy MS Office at a huge discount.

I just bought Office 2007 Home and Student edition for $80 from Office Max and it includes three licenses, which means I can install it on three different computers.
Check because some of the big box stores have sales and it is $100. It might be cheaper in the college bookstore.

depending on the college (i work at u of michigan) it might be free or drastically reduced. have her check with her school's IT dept. currently alot of schools can get microsoft software even cheaper than what can be purchased in stores as student editions. for instance, i purchased vista ultimate for $20 and i think i can get office for the same, so have her take a look. I'm sure they have a website or something with more info.

First try the Help and Support from the start button

Type Powerpoint viewer into the search and then hit enter

There are resources available for this program from microsoft

Only issue with the viewers for office apps is that they don't allow editing or creating of documents.

There are many online store selling Microsoft Office, back-to-school promotions, much cheaper. Only for the academic users. So I think you can take a look, Google keyword Microsoft Office back to school, maybe you can find it.
