Microsoft PowerPoint Troubles..

A few months ago I saves some of my research presentations (ppt. files) on a gmail account. Recently, I have tried to go back and download and open those files. While the files download from gmail w/o a problem, when I go to open the file I get the message "Powerpoint can't open the type of file represented by (filename)". I don't understand what happened. I've been told that the file may have been corrupted, especially with being saved on an email server.

Any suggestions on how to recover the file if it is corrupt or why powerpoint won't open the downloaded version?

Thanks for the link. Unfortunately, it didn't help much. I've been to MS office website to download all the updates and have even tried some of the hints suggested by the link, but to no avail.

When you saved the ppt file in the email server ware and then to your computer did it download as a ppt file or as a ppt file with an email extension association?

And this has never worked for me: A drag and drop from any internet source is only a "shell" unlike dragging and dropping from within your hard drive which includes the contents.

See if you can open the ppt file from the email window, this action should require your computer to access your ppt software to view it at which time you can perform a save as be sure the type of file is set as a ppt extension.
