Im not really sure where i should put this but here it goes. Today I was dlin some music video and I tried to watch it but i got some error sayin my sound device isnt working properly and that sometimes happens. So I decide to Reboot and when ever i got into my desktop 10 seconds later it decides to reboot on its own so i keep trying to get in and no luck. Then I had an idea to put it in safe mode and reboot that worked. But then I try to delete The video thinking it was a virus and once I delete it computer shuts off. At this point im pretty pissed and I get an error after the first Bootup page Saying : /WINDOWS/SYSTEM32/CONFIG/SYSTEM press "r" at the first windows to repair with the Windows Xp Pro disc so i say ok nothing happens. I try to put it in safe mode doesnt work. So I decided to try to reformatte but as soon as I get to first page of the formate computer shuts off so im really stuck here I dont wanna take it to some idiot sayin he cant fix it and charge me. Nor do I want to buy a new harddrive anyone got suggestions. O ya and I wont phone microsoft cause everyone knows what how computer smart alot of there people are.

not to repeat myself, but i use a win98 boot disk before installing winxp pro.

i boot with the disk in, select option 2, then at the A> prompt i use fdisk and delete any partiotions, then create a new primary one. then, reboot, with the disk in, and format drive C.

now, i know i have a clean drive. i then go into my bios, change the boot sequence to CD ROM first, then reboot with winxp in the cd drive.....

this might seem like extra work, but i've become used to it and i have perfect installs....(my opinion only) :)

To do a clean install of WinXP does not require a Win98 Boot disk. WinXP Install process is perfectly capable of doing a clean install over an existing WinXP installation.

SpAzZqNK any number of things can be causing your problem, RAM, HDD, PSU, CPU, MoBo, and last but not least a Virus.

    Lets start with the RAM.
    Memtest86+

    Download, burn, boot.

i agree, dude, i was just posting what i do with computers before installing win xp. many times people install the damndest things and i just like to ensure that partitions are correct and that i have a clean disk. too often, after installing winxp (and using it's own formatting) i found myself returning to "0" again.....just my own preference.
