Security Update for Windows XP (KB810217)
    Download size: 1.4 MB, < 1 minute
A security issue has been identified in FrontPage Server Extensions. This vulnerability could allow an attacker to run code of their choice on your system. You can help protect your computer by installing this update from Microsoft. After you install this item, you may have to restart your computer. Once you have installed this item, it cannot be removed.

I suggest running windows update to obtain this update for xp.

This is a security patch for Frontpage Server Extensions.

They are built into the OS??!

    How dumb.

FSE doesn't install unless you have IIS and then only if you specifically install the FSE support with the install of IIS.

If you don't have IIS installed then don't bother.

Also is this not an old one as MS are not issuing any Security Updates in December ( giving corporate Admins a well earned rest ;) )

Or MS is just letting boxes get rooted easier because of avaiability of possible exploits without a patch.

    NOT FOR ME, THANKS!

I chased the links around on this "critical update," and finally found that
...if you don't have either fp4awel.dll OR fp5awel.dll on your XP system, you have NO FP Extensions to patch.

There's a front page folder in my Program Files that came with the installation of the OS, but it contains nothing but empty folders.

I dunno why they're letting it pop up as "critical" if the scan could show that there's no FPE fileset on the system.

Anyway, for the very first time now, I am PASSING on a "critical update."

My count of ignored NON-criticals is now up to 8. Woohoodeehoo. Who cares?
