Microsoft Update Kb4019472 Causes Bsod

Hello:

This might not apply to everyone, but I have done some extensive testing this past week and found that a Windows Update, KB4019472 causes a BSOD when selecting the restart option. Details are below.

Equipment:

Panasonic FZ-G1 Tablet PC. 8 GB RAM, 256GB SSD Core i5 vPro

Testing Notes:

Noticed that with a factory reset device, I could restart the computer normally without issues. However, upon installing above referenced Windows Update, a reboot would immediately produce a BSOD, referencing "QUOTA_UNDERFLOW".

I made sure that all drivers for hardware were up to date, but still issue persisted. Even worse, when I tried to uninstall the said update, it would never uninstall, because part of that process is a reboot, which it would fail to cleanly do. I tried to do an Advanced Startup, trying Safe Mode, but due to BSOD on reboot, you could never enter this process. I finally isolated it down to this update, and when I blocked it, never had an issue since.

Final Notes:

While I am quite certain that this may be something that just affects this model of computer, just be aware that this has happened to others. Other forums are reporting similar things, or even that the update partially installs and gets stuck on downloading. If you have not installed this yet, I would advise you not to. Go into Windows Updates, right click that one and choose not to install, or hide.

That update only applied to older builds of Win 10. Update to the latest build and you will be better off.

 

Wish I would have known that. I find it odd that Microsoft would release that update, but not pull it if another one was better? Unless they are doing that whole, "Well to get this, you have to install that" type of thing, which is probably what happened.

 

Updates are only build related.
