Microsoft Update Problem

    Hi!

I scan for Microsoft Updates weekly. But yesterday my computer beat me to it, and displayed a yellow icon that looks like a shield with an exclamation mark inside of it. It notified me that updates were ready to be installed. I believe there were about 5 of them. However, one update came back as an "unsuccessful installation". I tried again today, but still get the same error message, and the update notifier (that looks like a shield) is still displayed on my computer, wanting to install this update.

How can I get the update to install?
And/or, how can I temporarily remove the notification icon so that it doesn't try to install this unsuccessful update?

    Thanks!

Do you have .Net Framework installed on your computer?

If you don't then the update will not install.

    Hi! Thanks for your reply. The following are listed in my Add/Remove window. I don't know anything about this stuff;

    Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1
    Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Hotfix
    Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0

The notification icon has since disappeared, I tried to download it again, but was unsuccessful. Maybe I'll just leave it be as the computer has finally stopped notifying me about it.

It looks like you have the 2.0 version already. Not all updates are relevant to all computers. If the icon is gone its probably fine.

That update is an update to version 2.0, not version 2 itself.

Still don't sweat it... I had a problem awhile back with one update that wouldn't install after repeated attempts and then it finally went. That update is not a critical one but you'll have to put up with the yellow icon unless you go to the update site and choose to ignore it.

Thanks. The icon is back again (after having the computer off), lol.

Click on the icon ....choose custom install ...uncheck the box nest to the download ...then click close ....prompt that you will not be reminded of this download ..click/check that box.

I just got he same error today when I attempted to update manually (using Windows Live OneCare). Then I let Windows do it automaticly and it took. I would try setting it up on Auto to a time where you can observe it.

    Thanks for your replies guys!
My updates are set up automatically. But I check them myself once a week anyways, just in case. For now, I unchecked the box to ignore this one update. Sounds like I'm not the only one having issues. Will try some other time with the update perhaps.
    Thank You!
