This is the first time I have ever had an issue after installing the Microsoft updates. I have win XP pro. The updates are security updates for Microsoft .net framework 2.0 and .net framework 1.1 service pack. Also there is a malicious software tool update. My computer runs perfect until I download and install the updates. My operating system will then either continue to restart on boot up or will restart for no reason about every 10 minutes. I have yet determined which of these updates are causing this. I have to use Acronis Image (thank God I have this program) and reinstall a past save disk image. I guess my question is do I really need any of those network security updates? Thanks

Update: I am installing the Microsoft updates one at a time to see which one blows my operating system up. Lengthy process as I have to restore a Acronis image backup everytime if it blows up which takes about 45 mins. So far the malicious software tool and the XP security update worked fine. When I installed the Microsoft .net framework 1.1 service pack, my system began rebooting. I am going to restore one more time and try the last Microsoft .net framework 2.0 update and see what happens.

Thanks for the info. Your suggestion will be my next option if anything goes wrong. I downloaded the Microsoft .net 2.0 update and everything seems fine so far. I am assuming that .net framework is like any other software, if I have the latest version I shouldn't need the .net framework 1.1 package update. Would that be correct? thanks for your help in this

    Yes that would be correct.

Well I have done everything. I ended up following your suggestion and uninstalled all of them and did the windows clean up. I then re-installed the .net framework that I had on my computer and everything was fine. I then went to windows update and as soon as I installed the updates, my computer was hosed. Apparently something doesn't like the updates so I guess I will restore back and not install the updates. I hate to not know what is wrong, but I could spend several hours and still not have a clue. Thanks for your help though.
