Hopefully the info abt my PC is enough. If not I am happy to provide more if requested.
''Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600)
    MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP2 (6.00.2900.2180)''

Over a long period of time I have been experiencing problems with updates.
I download them but for some unknown reason they do not install. However after not installing, the very next day when I review update history, where they are shown as having been installed.
Having said that, the October updates do not for some unknown reason appear to have been installed according to the update history preview.
I therefore decided to do a check using MBSA and of course they were listed there as not having been installed. I therefore installed them manually from the list stated in MBSA. Upon completion did another check with MBSA and they are all stated as having been installed. They are also in the ADD/REMOVE section but upon doing a check in the windows update they still are not appearing as having done even though no updates are shown requiring download/installation.

Input gratefully accepted as to a possible reason why my Windows Security Updates is apparently not functioning properly.

Are you actually using Windows Update site to download and install the updates live, or are you just downloading the updates to your HD for later install? if the latter I don't think Review Updates will list them, it doesnt for 4 I know I have reciently downloaded from the Microsoft Update Catalogue, same with SP2 which I downloaded the full pack, rather than use WU to install and that doesnt show either.

The ones you installed manually wont list as the source needs to be either Windows Update or Microsoft Update,

To try and see if this will be different for the next lot of updates and see if it will fix your history review listings, rather than use Windows Update this time use Microsoft Update ( different option as this also offers Office Updates from same page menus ) go here http://www.microsoft.com/ and on left menus click Microsoft Update and follow any instructions as you may have to re-install an ActiveX component, then when their are new updates, see if they install ok and populate your Update History ( this wount bring and missing ones into the list )

    Hallo Halo

Actually I always request whenever there are updates for them to be downloaded and t/after installed. The download appears to be OK but I always rcve msg that they were not installed. I have difficulty in resolving the reason why they won't install.
In the past the very next day after visiting the site, no updates are shown for downloading bcs I assume they have previously been downloaded. That is when I look in the preview list of installed downloads.
On the very last occasion there are no entries showing the most recent downloads as has been in the past but as you appear to suggest, maybe because I downloaded those mentioned using the facility provided in MBSA (Microsoft Baseline Security Analylzer) they would then not show up in the preview list.
Actually I use Microsoft Updates. In fact carried out yr request and it wud appear as though ActivX components are OK but no updates showing. I suppose I will just have to wait until the November list comes out and try once again using Microsoft updates as opposed to MBSA and see what transpires.
