HELP!! Ok this morning I got a critical update notice for (816093: Security Update Microsoft Virtual Machine (Microsoft VM). But when I try to install it it says " This setup will only upgrade over an exsisting version of the Microsoft VM " So it doesn't install it. I have Windows XP with sevice pack 2 and ALL updates, but for some reason this one I can not get. Ya I know, Microsoft no longer has a virtual machine for java, hasn't had for a long time, so what in the world is this update for? I have worked 4 hours on microsofts site trying to get this to either disapear or install, no go. The site says if you don't have virture machine this update will not show up, well I don't have it, but it is still pestering me. I have hid it for now, but I hate when my puter is screwed up, so any ideas? Thanks guys!

Microsoft VM is still available and can be acquired here at MG, it's just no longer supported by Microsoft. To confirm you don't have Mic VM on your pc, in IE look in tools/internet options/advanced tab...scroll down...if you see Microsoft VM then it's still installed. If you have Sun Java installed, you will see it on the list of checkbox options as well. If you're positive Mic VM is not on your machine, I'm not sure how to kill the update notice.

Nope, no Microsoft VM listed, have and have had for a long time Sun Java. This is really weird, as it just popped up, and hadn't had this problem before. I have blocked the notice to install, guess until I get really bored and reformat it can stay that way.  lol Thanks anyways tritonbx.

I have the exact same issue - same SP2 - same Sun Jave (v. 10) - same error. Can't believe we're the only 2 people.

What it means, is that you don't have Microsoft VM installed to begin with. Choose not to install it, and for it to never remind you again in the windows update options.

On the Update site you should have a box under it that says Don't show this update again. Check it.

Did that Steve, just can't figure out why it is even coming up. Microsoft can really be starnge. they haven't supported java for years, and now this? Kinda crazy if you ask me. Thanks for the reply.

OK. You clicked on the Custom update button and checked the box, but it's still showing?

Yes and no, it says I have hidden a critical update. It did stop the update notice that comes up on my task bar though. Guess because it's a critical update it thinks I must be mistaken for hiding it. lol No big deal, I know and you know, I do not need it and that's all that matters. Just seems dumb that windows update thinks I need it. That's Microsoft for you.
