    Welcome to Majorgeeks :)

Going to have to help me here as I didnt know that the public release of Win Vista Beta 2 was available yet ( it is to testers and sunscribers to TechNet and MSDN )?

Where on this site did you download it from and which build number?

This is the latest info on Vista 2; according to what I've read at PC Magazine (online edition 05-23-06):

"As with earlier Vista betas, Beta 2 will be available to hundreds of thousands of MSDN (Microsoft Developer Network), TechNet subscribers, and corporate beta testers. We also expect that Microsoft will make it available more widely, to around 2 million early adopters in the general public. Beta 2 will eventually be followed by one or more release candidates (RCs), leading up to RTM (release to manufacturing). If the current schedule holds, it will be available to enterprise customers in November and to consumers in January 2007."

Aside from that; if anyone here is interested in becoming a Windows Vista Beta member, you can do so by registering for the world-wide Windows Vista Beta Experience. Additionally, if you want to get a sneak peek at the various features available; anyone can download the Windows Vista Product Guide from here. As far as I know, you don't have to be a member of anything to download the Windows Vista Product Guide - I just downloaded it.

Note: Also this is a whopping 60 MB download of a single Word doc. You might want to change the font as the font that whoever created the document used; because it is very difficult to read.

    Good Luck!

No problem, Halo. I had actually assumed the original poster (ebrahim cacapit) was possibly referring to the "Vista Transformation Pack 4.0" available here at Major Geeks; which gives the Windows XP machine the "Vista look." I'm guessing there will be many of these "Vista Look-A-Like" types of applications and utilities popping up in anticipation to the public release of Vista in January of '07.

And thank you as well Halo, for the additional information and links to the WinFX Runtime Components - Beta2 and Vista beta 2 guide in XPS format. ;)

    Good Luck!

TBH Maggie, Vista Beta 2 is still really an early version of Vista and aimed at IT Pros and testers, so if you dont want to have issues with non-installing drivers and bugs then its not worth installing just yet, I would advise waiting for the final release.

If you have a spare test PC then great go for it as I have been doing for a while now as the new builds come out nearly each month to testers, I'm re-installing at least twice a month to bug test, but if you dont want the hassle of possible re-installs as I say dont install.

yes i will agree with that, testing must be in other pc or extra 9not what you always using, specially if you dont have back-up with your important files

With the actual Vista OS and not the XP skin look a like package in which we know the original poster is using, to answer you question on AV and AS that work with Vista, I can tell you its mixed, from the last lot of tests I did, these worked, other testers have had mixed results with some other applications, Norton Enterprise was one I remember.

    Antispyware
    Spywareblaster
    A2
    Ad-Aware SE
Windows Defender ( but thats was given as its installed by default )
    SuperAntispyware

    AntiVirus
AVAST Free ( latest build )

    Firewalls
None I have tested upto now, ZoneAlarm will not even start to install.
but the inbuilt Vista firewall is a full two way FW, but needs some serious user friendly tweaks.

Its bascially trial and error with 3rd party applications at present with, many apps needing updates from the maker, so with each new build we are advised to try again on install of apps that worked with a previous build and ones that didnt, basically install what apps you woudl use on a daily/weekly basis.
