    Hi,
    I have a dell inspiron 5100 laptop.
The problem I'm currently having is that I keep
getting this pop up message from Microsoft Visual C++
    Runtime Library, saying this:

    Runtime Error!

    Program: C:\WINDOWS\tempdl\upgrade.exe

    abnormal program termination

This pop up shows up in every 30 seconds or so, so
    it's really annoying.

Can anybody help me on how to get rid of this pop up
    error
    message??
Do u think it a virus infection possibility?

    Thanks b4!

    jer

    Sounds like a malware problem.

    Please run the steps below.

    - Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ ME FIRST BEFORE ASKING FOR SUPPORT: Basic Spyware, Trojan And Virus Removal

Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.

    - Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.
Also to get you started and to reduce the size of your HJT log. Do the following:

Also look in Add/Remove programs for Internet2 Optimizer and uninstall if found.

After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem, boot into normal mode and make sure you follow these directions:

    - Download HijackThis 1.99.1

    - Unzip the hijackthis.exe file to a folder you create named C:\Program Files\HJT

    - Do NOT run Hijack This from the Desktop, a temp folder, or a sub-folder of C:\Documents and Settings, or choose to run it directly from the downloaded ZIP file.

    - Before running HijackThis: You must close each of the following:your web browser, e-mail client, instant messenger, and programs like notepad, wordpad, MS Word etc. And any other unnecessary running programs.

    - Run HijackThis and save your log file.

    - Post your log as an ATTACHMENT to your next message. (Do NOT copy/paste the log into your post).

    Hi,
Okay, here is my scanned log after I run those directions in that link:

The one thing I didn't understand is that, I have kept deleting this file extension: C:\WINDOWS\tempdl\upgrade.exe
But it keeps showing up there again and again, though once I delete it, it always show if it has successfully been deleted.

Please install HijackThis properly as requested in my first message. You are running it directly from the ZIP file:
    C:\DOCUME~1\Blah\LOCALS~1\Temp\Temporary Directory 1 for hijackthis.zip\HijackThis.exe

You did not run ALL of the steps in the READ ME FIRST. Why not?

We need to fix a bug in Spybot S&D and then run a new scan. It may then find and fix the newdot.net problem you have.

    Fixing SpyBot's Ignore Products Bug:
I want you to run SpyBot and get into the Advanced mode by selecting Mode and then
Advanced mode. Then select Settings and the in the left column select Ignore Products.
In the right window pane make sure the All products tab is selected. Then in that
window, right click your mouse and choose "Deselect all". Now in the left pane click
at the top on SpyBot S&D and then choose Search for Updates. Download any updates
required. Now click Check for Problems. Fix any that are found.

After performing the steps from my previous message, continue with the below steps. You have a bunch of problems.

Download Nail/Bolder/Aurora Remover 0.3.1 Beta and save it to its own folder like c:\ABIremover

    - Now extract the abiremover.exe file from the ZIP file into the folder you created but do not run the EXE yet.

    - Reboot into Safe Mode with no network suppost and do not run anything else but what I tell you to run!

    - Run the ABIRemover.exe, press install, wait (explorer window will disapear)

    - When it finishes just reboot into normal mode.

Do you recognize this next serivce? Does VisFx mean anything to you?
    O23 - Service: Windows VisFx Components - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\xpvusvc.exe

If you are using WinXP or WinMe, make sure you have system restore disabled (per the tutorial).
For all OS types, make sure viewing of hidden files is enabled (per the tutorial).

Please run HijackThis and click on the "Open the Misc Tools Section" button on the open page. Then select "Open process manager" on the left-hand side. Look for the following process (or processes) and one at a time kill them by selecting it and then click "Kill process". Then click yes.
    C:\WINDOWS\xpvusvc.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\YDRADLL.EXE
    C:\WINDOWS\hmusdll.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\hmusenc.EXE
    c:\windows\system32\heqeegv.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\tempdl\upgrade.exe

After killing all the above processes, click "Back".
Then please click "Scan" and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.
Boot into safe mode and use Windows Explorer to delete:
    C:\Program Files\NewDotNet <--- the whole folder
    C:\Program Files\quickbar <--- the whole folder
    C:\WINDOWS\xpvusvc.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\YDRADLL.EXE

    C:\WINDOWS\eud2c.exe or C:\WINDOWS\system32\eud2c.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\cfgmgr52.dll
    c:\windows\system32\repairs.dll

If you get an error when deleting a file. Right click on the file and check to see if the read only attribute is checked. If it is, uncheck it and try again. Other wise open Task Manager and kill the process if running then delete the file.

Now run Ccleaner (installed while running the READ ME FIRST). Now if running Win XP goto c:\windows\Prefetch and delete all files in this folder.

Now we need to Reset Web Settings:
    1) If you have an Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop, goto step 2. If not, skip to step 3.
    2) Now right click on your desktop Internet Explorer icon and select Properties. Then click the Programs tab and then click "Reset Web Settings". Now go back to the General tab and set your home page address to something useful like www.majorgeeks.com. Click Apply. Click Delete Cookies, Click Delete Files and select Delete all Offline content too, Click OK. When it finishes Click OK. Then skip step 3.
    3) If you do not have an Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop, click Start, Control Panel (for some systems it may be Start, Settings, Control Panel), Internet Options, Programs tab and then click "Reset Web Settings". Now go back to the General tab and set your home page address to something useful like www.majorgeeks.com. Click Apply. Click Delete Cookies, Click Delete Files and select Delete all Offline content too, Click OK. When it finishes Click OK.

Now reboot in normal mode and post a new HJT log. And tell us how things are working.
