My husband allowed the download of Windows 10 on my PC, I gave it three weeks, couldn't get on with it so today rolled back to Windows 7. Since then there have been four attempts to download Win10 again, even though I have adjusted the settings to just advise me of updates and I will decide whether to go ahead or not.
In the past I have been able to get rid of update notifications but can't remember what I did or even if I can do the same with an OS. Now every time I go to Control Panel the update kicks in again. Driving me mad, I will never go to Windows 10 again, I hated it. Any advice welcome as to how to get rid of the nag.

Look in installed updates for KB3035583 and uninstall it if it's there. Get GWX Control panel from Major Geeks, install it and set it to deny Windows 10. There are a couple of other programs on Major Geeks as well like Never Windows 10. Look for them.

Just FYI though, I'm posting this from within Windows 10. The only thing I didn't/don't like about it is the lack of control over Windows Updates we had up until Windows 8.1.

thanks a lot, I have used GWX so hopefully I will have no more problems. There were quite a few little things I didn't like about 10, one being the Edge browser. I never did find out how to find my search history although I did try.
I am happy with 7 so until something better comes along I will be a dinosaur!

I don't particularly like the Edge browser either so, I've got Internet Explorer pinned to my task bar and use Firefox as my default browser.

But, I'm running Windows 7, 8.1 and 10 on my computer so that I know what I'm "talking" about if I try to help someone in any of them.

If you don't turn off 80% of the stuff that's the bug lol. That microsoft put in to collect your data.

I agree about the data collection but, I did turn off a lot of stuff in the Privacy settings and even during initial setup. Like you, I don't go for the fact that "Big Brother is watching." but, all-in-all, Windows 10 is a decent operating system.

There are now several good free programs such as O&O ShutUp10 that work very well. I haven't found Win10 buggy at all.

Sadly a lot of people do not know they need to, nor will they know how to, turn things off in Privacy settings, or install programs to do it for them. :(

Yes - that's why people come here. Lack of knowledge before doing that has been around since the first ever Windows system. Nothing new.

The only issue I've had with Windows 10 is the new Crimson suite from AMD. At first, it would not install. Found that to be an AV issue, which I never had with Catalyst. Got the installation completed, and Crimson simply did not work right. No advanced options, no adjustments to underscan/overscan, nada, zero, zilch, nothing.

So, I am still using the latest version of Catalyst until they work out all the bugs.
