Hi, I have called Dell, the manufacturer of my computer, who referred me to Microsoft, who told me they no longer have anything that will support my O/S. If you have a problem, read archived material==that is it. They are coming out with a new OS next year sometime.

Anyway, I am desperate to have Microsoft Word. I have tried some other programs, but most require XP. I found one that was working, but the capabilities were less than what I need (Ali???), so I uninstalled it.

My computer crashed, and the repair people could not tell I had had Word, so they did not reinstall. What did they know. However, I've lost the program, and all of my documents are know Word Pad. Great, do something with that.

If you have a Word Program I could use, let me know. Or, if there is a download, send me the address. I appreciate the "Geeks'" help.

Sadly but true, Microsoft no longer supports any O/S below Windows XP SP2.
What alternative did you use that you didnt like?

OpenOffice.org is the open source project through which Sun Microsystems is releasing the technology for the popular StarOffice productivity suite. It is an international office suite that will run on all major platforms and provide access to all functionality and data through open-component based APIs and an XML-based file format. It establishes the necessary facilities to make this open source technology available to the developer community.

Unless I'm wrong, but MS does support windows 2000, till 2010.

Open office might be the best choice, if you can't find offfice 97.

Thanx for the reply! I'm wondering, with the "live chat" and telco I had with Dell and Microsoft if they support anything. My friend is a tech, so I think she is going to provide the info I need. Sometimes, I just can't keep up with technology. How will I ever become a "geek"?

I have my original office 97 disk that I no longer use (but I never throw anything away) As a last resort let me know if you can use it and we can set something up for me to mail it to you.

I've often wondered, they don't sell it, they won't support it, but they own it. Other than piracy and old copies, how is something like that distributed?

I like Office 97, even though most folks tell me to get rid of it.

Boy, you got me. I suppose we are all supposed to be of the financial stature that we can all afford each new system when it comes out. Yeah, right.

I checked out Open Office, but it didn't have some of the commands I wanted I think printing envelopes (single) was one. It's tough when technology moves so fast. Thanx for the suggestion. Willie

I'd love to have it, and I hope that my friend really comes through. However, I certainly appreciate your offer. We'd have to make arrangements for mailing.
