Microsoft Word Help Needed re Footnotes

We have a small network in my office - 3 desktop PCs. We have Windows XP professional, and Microsoft Office XP for Small Business. I am having a problem with Word relating to footnotes/endnotes on one of the PCs. When I click Insert/Reference/Footnote, instead of the Footnote and Endnote dialog box opening, Word automatically inserts a footnote into my document. I need to see the Footnote and Endnote dialog box so that I can change the number format for an endnote. I have searched through the Tools/Options menus and cannot find any setting relating to the dialog box. Can somebody please tell me how to find the dialog box?

 

Try using these shortcut keys

Press CTRL+ALT+F to insert a footnote.

Press CTRL+ALT+D to insert an endnote.

I was able to fix the problem, but I still don't understand why it was happening. Shortly after switching from WordPerfect to Word two years ago, I had created my own keyboard shortcut/macro for inserting footnotes into documents. I had not used that macro for a long time, and had forgotten it was there. Anyways, I deleted it and the Footnote and Endnote dialog box reappeared. Interestingly, before deleting the macro, the Ctrl+Alt+D keyboard shortcut for inserting endnotes was not working either.

 

I'm not a guru on this, but just a theory, in Word, I believe, macros are somehow contained in the Normal.dot file. Your macro probably, somehow, 'overwrote' the dialog box presence. Bottom line is that there's a lot to the Normal.dot file than meets the eye
