    Look on the toolbar

for a symbol that looks exactly like the last symbol in your screenshot and click on it once, it will go away. You may havd to look on the toolbar where it says "more buttons"

Open Word. With a document open, press Ctrl and Shift and type the number 8 on the main keyboard (not on the keypad over on the right).

If that fails, make sure the Standard toolbar is showing (right clcik any toolbar and check the Standard), and click the Paragraph mark (the one that looks like the backward P in your screenshot) in the Standard toolbar. That'll turn off "show paragraph marking."

EDIT: You beat me to it, BOCCEMON! Great!

One handy use for that nasty ole paragraph button is: if your printer habitually (or even occasionally) prints out an extra page (blank) just fire up the paragraph tool and check your document. You'll probably find the blank page all covered with those little paragraph marks. Go to the last one on the page and click backspace and keep on clicking until all those little boogers are gone. Cures the extra page prob the easy way (at least the easy way for me) ;)
