I use computers with microsoft windows 2007 and 2010 but store all my files on windows xp. Is there a way I can permanently set up 2007 and 2010 to save all my files in windows xp automatically without me having to go in and change it to save as. I would like it to save as always as XP. I sometimes forget or the save as flies by and then I cannot open it in XP. Thank you so much for any assistance you provide. You are all heaven sent.

Well, let's get the facts and terminology straightened out and then maybe we can help. First, there is no "microsoft windows 2007 and 2010". Do you mean Microsoft Office 2007 and Microsoft Office 2010?

How many computers are involved in this scenario? Which version of Windows is on each machine? And, what version of Microsoft Office is on each machine?

    Hi

If I have your post correctly you want to save Office applications files in the non .docx .xlsx, .pptx type formats?

If thats correct then you can do this on the Options page to Office 2007 and Office 2010, may need to do it for each Office application you use, and the location is File > Options > Save and then at the top is a dropdown box that you can pick the format of Office files you'd like to save in and if by XP you mean Office XP then choose for example Word 97 - 2003 Format and click OK

then do this for any of the other Office Applications you use, the location in both Office 2007 and 2010 is the same for the save options.

You can also install on PCs that dont have Office 2007 and 2010 the Office Compatability Pack and this will open the .docx .xlsx etc formats.

Sorry for the confusion. I am not literate with computer terminology but getting there. I guess at my age it will take time. I use 3 different computers one with Office Word 97, one with Office2007(Windows 7) and one with Office 2010(Windows 7). I save my files on the Windows XP which is Word 97. I hope this helps.

    Thank you,

Can this be done as all files being saved on Office 2007 and 2010 to be save in the 97-2003 format or do I need to direct them individually as save as 97-2003. What I am trying to do is have it save automatically in the 978-2003 format because at times I quickly save in the 2007 and 2010 files then have to go back and resave. Just trying to save me some time because of my forgetfulness. Thank you,

    Hi

Once that setting is set in Options > Save then all files will save as 97 -2003 format which is what you need, no need then to use Save As and change the format of each one.

See my Office 2010 Word options and from that list whichever one I pick will become default Save option.
