Microsoft XP Automatic Updates - Trojan

Today, June 16, 2005, I received a notice that there were critical updates for my Windows XP. It automatically downloaded them like normal, then when I prompted it to install the updates, about half-way through I received a message from AntiVir that there was a Trojan in the SETUP.EXE.

I try to keep my computer free of spyware by using both Spywareblaster and Spybot, and I was not doing anything else other than running this install at the time. I think this is pretty serious if it indeed came from the auto-update program.

I have SP2 installed. This is what it was trying to update:
Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer for Windows XP Service Pack 2 (KB883939)
Security Update for Windows XP (KB896358)
Security Update for Windows XP (KB896422)

I told AntiVir to delete the infected SETUP.EXE that auto-update was installing, and have since left the update alone on my taskbar.

Who should I talk to, where should I go, or what should I do at this point?

Automatic Updater installed those three files for me on the 14th without any problems. Maybe you are just getting a false positive. Anyway I just replyed so that you would know that those three updates are legit and have been installed sucessfully at least by one person.

 

I did my upgrade manually and checked them for trojan and viruses and got no negative results. I did not do the sp2 one though cause I got sp1 but the other two were for all systems so I did install them along with about 8 other updates. IT looks all good here for now.

 

I just updated with no problem. I use Avast and got no reaction. Contact MS and Grisoft and ask if anyone else has an issue, if you like. I'm guessing false positive also.
