microtek v310 and winxp trouble

Hi, I am having trouble connecting my Microtek Scanmaker V310 to my laptop with winxp. I install it correctly for parallel support. The scanwizard software launches fine, even scans a preview, but when I select to scan, the laptop and scanner lock up. I checked my device manager and its has the yellow ! on the the driver created by scanner software (see jpeg). I know the manufacturer only lists win95,98,00 and NT as being compatable, but I've been reading posts where people have been using it with xp. Anybody know how? I like this old scanner!

 

most of the time if its NT compatible, its xp compatible too.
but i'd look around on driverguide.com and see if you can find any better drivers for it, there should most likely be drivers on there, i'd be surprised if you couldn't find it!

I used to like my old $365 300dpi ScanMaker E3, too, but the day I installed WinXP was the last day I used my E3-- no XP driver support. I searched high and low-- for a while, but ultimately ended up buying a new model ScanMaker 4800 with USB and 1200x2400 optical resolution that works fine in XP for $48 on sale at OD.

 

yes, I've been there and tried the one they had SW260, it didn't work. I'm thinking its conflicting with one of my programs maybe, i don't have a clue which however, (
