Microwaving CDs.

Put a CD in the microwave. Nice light show, but damn, did it stink.

OK I'll bite.....and you did this because??:confused

 

This might break the microwave or start a fire... Forget what I did once that started a fire in the microwave but it was food related, think it was something on a paper plate, learned my lesson about paying attn to what I put in to nuke.

 

My mom wasn't too happy. She kept muttering stuff about killing the microwave.

 

The CD was a coaster that I had laying around for ages. It was just a really cheap no-name brand.

 

What happened? Did it go boom? :-D

 

What, the CD or the microwave? Or both.

not enough metal in a CD to do any real harm. it will stink to high heaven though.

I do it all the time. only way to destroy a DVD or CD and make sure that it is totally unrecoverable.

 

What about smashing it into a gazillion pieces with a big hammer? :-D Just a suggestion.

 

Learn something new everyday here, never thought of that. I take the kitchen shears to them but I guess you might be able to recover it? Not sure, but don't think anyone diving in my garbage would try :-D

 

I found a video on youtube I think, somebody put a bar of soap in, and it ended up poofing up really huge.

I would never put metal in a microwave, really stupid thing to do.

they really don't smash very well at all.

I regularly microwave CD's and DVD's. The only bad part is that I clean the microwave afterward because of the smell and what not and that is the only time the microwave gets cleaned. I work with some real pigs...

and don't throw a cd or dvd, expecting it to break...i've seen one go clean through a window, leaving a small slit where it went through

You know why hot dogs explode in the microwave if you dont put them in water? They are formed from the whole animal including bone and dyed red and small air chambers inside the bone heat up and explode

The best thing to do with a microwave is to get a mains bulb 240v or 110v over there put it in a bowl of water so it covers the metal terminal and turn on the microwave.

The bulb will light up

EDIT why do people use CD's for coasters?They are useless they have a hole in the middle:-D

 

Ah, you do know you can thaw out frozen food, warm food up, and even cook some food in a microwave... :-D

there was this youtube group that experimented with putting stuff in a microwave...i think they were called "is it a good idea to microwave this?" they did some really awesome stuff.
