I spent the past 20 minutes Googling and I can't seem to get the search terms right - so how (if possible) can I merge someone's Outlook Emails from their XP install to a clean install of Windows 7? I have a client who wants to upgrade from WinXP to Win7, and she's been using OE for email for a couple of years and she needs all her docs, emails, etc backed up and then merged to a new Win7 install. I know that Win7 does not have Outlook Express, but it does have Live Mail (?? I think it's called Live Mail ??), so I need to know how to merge OE emails and addresses in to Live Mail.

    THX!

    Hi dlb.

I googled in the "startpage" seach engine for: "Transfer Email Express to Windows Live Mail" and found several tips on how to do it. One link is: http://www.webdevelopersnotes.com/t.../transfer-outlook-express-email-windows-7.php

In that article it says to transfer to a new machine but perhaps you can get around that obstacle?
    Hope this will help you.

PS: I don't have Live Mail nor Windows 7.

This wasn't actually a work in progress... I have a client that is gearing up for a move to Windows7 from WinXP and will be performing a clean install of Win7. So we're going to have to backup the Outlook Express .dbx files, (or use the "Export" or "Back Up" function in OE if it's even included), then merge them in to Windows Live Mail after formatting the drive and installing Win7.... thanks for the info above! I've added this thread to my bookmarks, and I've archived the emails that I rec'd after subscribing to this thread. ;)

Any time dlb! If your client has the OE address book then you'll need to transfer that info as well - *wab - I think or something like that. The instructions are in my 2nd reply.

I disagree with one point in http://ask-leo.com/how_do_i_move_my_outlook_express_email_from_windows_xp_to_windows_7.html. It says "there is no automated process to transfer it to your new installation" and it simply says you need to write down all the email account elements so that you can manually create the email account(s) in WLM. That part of that reference is incorrect. Email accounts can be exported from Outlook Express and then imported into WLM. Exporting from Outlook Express creates a file with extension .iaf for each account exported. That/those file(s) can then be imported into WLM. Here's a reference on the procedure: http://email.about.com/od/livemaild...ettings_from_Outlook_Express_in_Live_Mail.htm
