Can anybody suggest a way to transfer my old windows programs and settings to my new operating system without losing the new software?. I purchased a new HP computer running Win XP Home after I lost my motherboard on the old machine. I have installed my old hard drive as a slave on the new machine. I can't get the Windows file and transfer wizard to work in this situation. Thanks...

There are ways to get your programs transferred but it is a PITA. Lots of registry exportation and importation....... What programs do you really need transfered?

Do you need your documents, email, and pictures/music transfered?

Hi. Thanks for responding. Right now my biggest headache is trying to get MS Outlook to recognize my old address book from outlook. I was able to copy and paste my "outlook.pst" file which gives me all my old email and contacts but everytime I try to open the address book I get this error message: "The address list could not be displayed. The contacts folder associated with this address list could not be opened; it may have been moved or deleted, or you do not have permissions. For information on how to remove this folder from the Outlook address book, see Microsoft Office Outlook help." I was thinking if I could boot from my old disk I could figure something out.
