Minecraft phenom

Anyone tried this game?

For those who havn't, it's basically a world builder/exploring game.

It's not a game I can convince you to try, it's a game you HAVE to play to understand. It's possibly one of the most ingenious since Tetris.
It's an open world building game, well mining game :-D

Everything is a block, there are many types of block such as Sand, Stone, Cobble, Glass, Diamond etc etc etc, each has a purpose, you need to cut down trees to make a crafting table, you need a crafting table to make tools.
You need light so you need to find coal and make sticks from wood chopped for torches. Kill pigs or fish or grow stuff to get food, cook the food for higher effect in furnace. But you need to build the furnace first.... out of stone which you need to mine.

You need food for health because deep in the ground and on the surface at night are monsters such as zombies and big spiders that attack you, but these guys also drop things you need such as feathers to put with sticks and flint (found mining gravel) to make arrows for your bow wich you made from sticks and string you got from killing a spider.
You can switch monsters off if you wish because they can get annoying when trying to do specific things.

So you get the idea, but it's not quite as dull as that, you can litterally create ANYTHING, build or dig, the world is massive, you walk along and just start digging where you want, dig down and twist then up again. It's really satisfying and exciting when you find diamonds or Iron ore or even coal when you really need it.
Each time you load a new world it builds a totally random world so you never know where anything is.

It's an explorer/builder gamers dream.

It's main drawback is it looks like an old Atari game or NES, it really does look like crap.....BUT... it doesn't matter, I started playing this game 10 minutes after finishing a quite different game....Crysis 2, so going from top of the line graphics to this and not caring just shows that the gameplay is so strong.

It's constantnly being added to and has been heavily modded which I havn't even looked at yet.

None of what I've said really explains it well, you HAVE to play it to "Get it".

Try it, give it 30 minutes of your time, you'll be glad you did......... although this is a life consuming game :-D

It's current longevity is huge, but in some ways limited. Basically you are limited to what you want to do, I will admit though at present it can start to feel like "Whats the point" but your imagination is pretty much your only limit.
It sucks they make you pay, they should put out a free trial, it would launch the game beyond the devs dreams I think. Although it's not finished yet, still in beta but yes you still have to buy it.

Like I said, all the marketing in the world wont help, it has to be played.

 

It's weird, I've never come across a game that has so little appeal on the outside but is so addictive once you get going. Of course these are just my opinions

Yeah, the creator of this game, went from small sales, to a million. Made a fortune, started a company, and now has office space and a team working on this game, and another (which is in the works).

I've never played it, but I read the blog. Very interesting.
