I am thinking of pulling the Realtek wireless an mini pci-e adapter in my Toshiba Satellite C850d, to put in a Wireless-ac adapter.

Problem is, the only one I can find is the Intel Dual channel. Anyone know if it will work with the existing antenna that is put in on these machines. I know that they are really nothing more than a piece of foil and wire in the screen case area.

I found the Intel adapter on amazon.com for $30, so really looking that it would not be a pocket book killer. The A/P I use all of the time, is a Trendnet TEW-690ap, so I would hope that it would give me the 600mbps.

This is the adapter. http://www.amazon.com/Intel-Network...475&sr=8-4&keywords=Intel+dual+band+mini+card. Discussion is welcome.

I assume you are looking for more speed between devices? Otherwise, as I assume you know, you're not going to get much of a performance increase on the internet but you might do better getting a larger antenna for your router.

I would be curious to see about your antenna issue because as you said, it's not exactly an antenna like most would expect.

I do not have an antenna issue with the current mini-card in my machine, only problem is, that one site states that Toshiba does not blacklist that adapter, is all I was able to find out.

Of course Toshiba's message back to me, is that they do not support end-user upgrades on their hardware, so you cannot even get a clear message from the, whether the Intel 7260 wireless-ac pci-e mini card is blacklisted in the bios or not.

I guess I will find out, when I get the card, and install it, to see if it works or not with my Satellite C850d-st3nx1. The card is only $29, so really not taking a hit on this.

This experiment did not fare well. Got my laptop back from Toshiba repair last night, so stuck the Intel 7260 Wireless-ac/Bluetooth dual antenna 2.4/5ghz mini card in the laptop. Right away Windows 8.1 found the new card, then it went South.

The signal would go from full to 3/4, then drop all together. Then the card would go to not working at all. Keep in mind that the original Realtek RTL8188CE chipset mini-card b/g/n single antenna works like a charm, and this was all just a experiment with the new card.

Pulled the Intel 7260 out, and put back in the old Realtek. I am going to try it in the Acer Netbook that my daughter has, since it already uses a Intel chipset Wireless mini-card.
