    Hi All,

I love retro games however have found they fewer and fewer are working with my modern 64bit rig.

    Namely
    Dark Forces 2
    Grim Fangado
    Tiberian Sun

I'm thinking to build some kind of mini PC then set it up with a KVM.

    Essentially I think I'm after I Hi-Spec Windows 98 machine in a small package.

I was wondering if anyone had any pointers.

I saw this which looks good however I'm concerned about onboard graphics and compatibily, I was hoping for something with AGP, I'm sure I have a Voodoo 3 kicking about somewhere:-D

    Any Suggestions?

Have you considered a virtual machine?

    I recommend virtualbox.

I assure you I have scoured the Internet for all the tips and hacks to get these games running, it isn't a simple compatibility fix. Would a virtual machine be able to emulate different hardware? Or a 32bit enviroment?

    32bit environment - yes

different hardware - yes but may be limited to what they have to select.

Just a suggestion - I have found a few older games that wouldn't install on Windows 7 64 bit would play just fine if you simply transplanted it's install folder from, lets say, an XP machine to your 64bit rig. Not all of them, but a good few I used to play, like Dark Reign II, an old Star Wars game (I forget the title), and some PC games based on board games for example.

I'm not sure, but the issue seems to be sometimes Windows 7 64 bit can't recognize a game's installer, but often can run the game itself, which is coded in a higher bit then the installer?
