    Hi Everyone,

I've tried and tried to get pictures from this camera into my PC. I downloaded a driver that was supposed to work: driver detective. I turned off this and that but when it finally got installed, it would not work. I tried just putting in the old win.98 disk and got a nasty warning message that if I ran that install it would mess up my computer.

The camera is old but never out of the box, so brand new to me.
I did a search on this site to see if years back someone else had the same problem and I could not find it. Sorry. If it is here, just give me the link and I'll get started.........

    Thanks in advance,

    major squeek :p

Are you sure you need a driver?

All the Dimage cameras I have seen appear as removable drives in explorer and the jpegs can simply be copied off or viewed with a graphics program such as ACDsee.

Minolta did produce a viewer program of their own which is useful as it can also read the EXIF information and provide some basic picture manipulation.

Minolta never wrote 2000 drivers and thus by extent xp drivers for that camera. the official word is that the drivers available for it are for 95/98 only. Studiot's idea sounds good to me and if that doesn't work you may want to consider just picking up a USB card reader. they are relatively inexspensive .

    My manual states

"Compatible with windows 98, 98SE, Me, 2000 Professional and XP."

"Users of Windows 98 or 98SE will need to install the drivers on the included CD ROM"

I think this is to do with the fact that 98 does not have the automatic recognition software for USB that is present in later versions of Windows.

Well, I'm just floored by how much there is to know. And, how quick there was response to the question.
I'm a major squeek geek because I've only started learning.... sorry to be such a bore.
If I don't need a driver then how do I get the thing to load? I can plug it in and a message pops up recognizing that I have new hardware but it says I need something to get the information.
I do not know how to find or activate ACDsee or what EXIF info is?

I don't know if you managed to (half) install the 98 drivers into XP. Is there anything showing in add/remove programs? If so remove it.

With the camera switched off, just plug the camera into the pc via the (USB?) cable that, hopefully, came with it.

Set the camera dial to the appropriate computer setting.

Let XP do its thing finding the camera. Ignore any messages.

Open MY COMPUTER or Windows Explorer.
Look for a new drive labelled removable drive
Browse through the drive for your pics: copy them to your hard d rive to suit.
Do not rotate, delete or format or otherwise change the camera originals using the computer. Do this to the copies on your hard drive.

You will find that the early Dimages go through batteries like my rabbit eats dandelions. I suggest a mains supply for this. Dimages are very sensitive to battery types, only the best dry cells and NIMH rechargables will do.

The EXIF information is additional information attached to each pictures about the time, date, camera settings when shot and other stuff. It varies from camera to camera. It is a bonus with digital photograph, not essential.

I don't know where you are in the world but might be able to help with the Dimage own viewer. Send me a PM.

Thanks for the information. I may have some stuff from 98 on there as I tried to load the minolta disk twice but didn't do the full thing.
I will try finding the pictures in the removeable drive....
    thanks for your time
